Safety Tips While Operating Trenchers

No matter what types of trenchers you are using, there are risks associated with all of them. Thus, it is required for one to be trained before starting to use trenchers, especially big heavy duty trenchers
.
Before starting to use the machine, the very first thing to do is to read the operator’s manuals that come with the machine before starting operating the machine. It is important to understand everything in the manuals completely. The attire for the job is also important. Wear safety attires such as comfortable clothes, safety shoes, safety goggles, hearing protection and safety helmet, or according to the safety attire in the company’s policy.

Checking the machines are also important; check for any loose, broken or missing parts and repair them before starting any jobs. Apart from this, also check that the safety devices on the machines are working properly. For example make sure that the seat belts and the buckles are working fine, warning lights and shields as well. Usually, there are warnings and safety guidelines on the machine itself, such as warning on parts that get hot during operation and take extra precautions while you all are near such parts.

As most trenching devices and machines are operating based on hydraulic, it is critical to check whether they are leaking or not using a piece of thick-paper or wood. The next step is to check on the radiator coolant. Addition of fuel can only be done when the engine is stopped and has cooled down. As fuels are dangerous and highly flammable, it is both important and mandatory to check that there are no sources of flames around while re-fuelling.

Next, it is advisable to research on the types of soil that you will be working on. This allows you to choose the best trenchers to work with. Apart from the types of soil, you must also check with the authorities whether are there any electric or gas lines at the job site. Although some trenchers are not very tall, it is important to check whether there are any overhead utility lines such as electric cables.

When you have checked everything above, you are ready to operate a trencher. While you are on the trencher, adjust the seat to a comfortable position and then fasten your seat belt. It is both important and mandatory to make sure that there is nothing surrounding you and the machine before starting to operate the machine. Similar to driving, make sure that the controls are in neutral position and the brakes are on.

When you have started the engine, test all controls to make sure that they are working fine. Start to operate the trenching devices and machines at slow speed. One both important and mandatory thing to keep in mind is that trenching devices and machines are designed only for one operator at one time, thus there are no riders allowed during an operation.
Other safety precautions include never make any sharp turns while digging as this might causes imbalance and the machine might topple. For hand-held trenching devices and machines, make sure that your hands are well away from the chains and augers.

Construction Backhoes Of Today

Backhoe excavating machines are also known as the rear or back actors and are a type of excavating equipment with a digging bucket at the end of a two-part articulated arm. They are applied and used in numerous industries and fields such as construction site. One of the arms which is closest to the vehicle is known as the boom while the other section is known as the dipper or dipperstick and this section carries the bucket. The current backhoe excavating machines are powered by hydraulics.

The backhoes are not only useful for excavation, with additional attachment such as the tiltrotator it can work as an effective tool carrier. The attachments of the arm include the tilrotator, breaker, grapple or an auger. Many backhoes consist of quick-attach mounting systems which are used for simplified attachment mounting. This increases the machine’s utilization on the jobsite.

There are different types of backhoe loaders. One of them include the front-end loader which is used to lift and move materials, and to dif the ground to lay the foundation of a structure. Other uses include digging trenches, removing stumps and planting trees. Apart from that they are often used as attachments to a tractor.

The most powerful part of a backhoe is commonly on curling of the bucket, followed by the dipperstick and boom movements. A backhoe digs by drawing the earth backwards, compared to another category known as the bulldozer which lifts the earth up with a forward motion.

The earliest backhoe was developed by a British company JCB in 1953. Their first tractor was equipped with a hoe and a front-mounted loading bucket. This has started the first step towards using backhoe excavating machines and also as a standard pattern for future designs of hoe loaders. It is not unusual to see generic trademarks in United Kingdom and Ireland. Other manufacturers include Hitachi construction site Machinery, Hydrema, Komatsu, Gazar Loader, Ford Motor Company, Caterpillar Inc. and lots more.

JCB or J.C.Bamford Excavators Limited was first established in the 1945 in Staffordshire in England. The very first vehicle made by this company was a farm trailer. Now, JCB is one of the largest construction site equipment manufacturers globally and has factories in United Kingdom, Germany, America, China, India and Brazil. Most of the vehicles manufactured by JCB are variants of the backhoe excavating machines of different sizes. Apart from backhoe excavating machines, JCB also produce
tractors and Dieselmax which is a Land Speed Record vehicle.

Although backhoe excavation tools and machines are general purpose tools, one can design a backhoe in such a way to suit the purposes that it is intended to do, such as modifying a farm tractor with a front end loader and a rear hoe which is much stronger compared to the unmodified version.

Usually, backhoes are used together with loaders and bulldozers. Today, they are slowly replaced by multiple specialist tools such as the excavator and the specially-designed front end loader, and also mini-excavators. It is common to see a skidsteer and a mini excavator being used in many jobsites. However, backhoes are still popular for general use.
