Ways To Control Weeds

Weeds are the useless plants that grow along with the good plants in the field. These weeds are in most cases a nuisance to the existing crop. And most of the people dread the presence of the weeds. They will try all the different ways to control weeds that will help them to get rid of the weeds and to get rid of them for a long time. There are various measures that they adopt for this to happen.

Methods of controlling weeds:

There are four ways to control weeds. They are Mechanical which involves cultivation. This method includes pulling out of the weeds by the hands and is also called hand-weeding. The other method of controlling weeds is by cropping or cultural and in this method it is made sure that the seeds used are good and strong in this method the seeds are adaptable and they germinate quickly and grow quickly and also have a leaf area that is large. The last method is the chemical method wherein fungicides and pesticides are used to make sure that the weeds are destroyed completely and the good crops are allowed to grow well.

Advantages and Disadvantages of these methods:

All the above mentioned methods have their own advantages and disadvantages. At times to make the most of all they use a combination of all these methods and find the best ways to control weeds. The first method of weed-control is useful only when the number of weeds present is few. If weed is of a variety that has long roots then they need to be spotted and treated with a selected type of a weed killer. However if the entire lawn is infested then the call of the hour is to have a treatment done for the entire loan and not selective treatment.

Always remember to spray such weed killers in the spring and this is because when the weed killer is sprayed it is absorbed by the sap of the plant and during the spring the weeds are growing fast and the sap is the most active.

The other important factor to keep in mind is that in order to make the use of the weed killer very effective the spray should be very fine. The fine spray will ensure that the entire weed is covered. The spray must cover most of the shoot and the leaf surface. Also the soil sterilants or soil fumigants can be used. The advantage of using this is that it will help in cleaning the soil and helping the growth of new plants in the same place.
