Take a walk through your local grocery store and you will be shocked at the price of organic produce these days. So it’s no wonder that more people like yourself are deciding to till up the ground in their yard, and grow their own. Not only will you save loads of money but if you can get a large enough harvest you can also sell some, or give them away to friends.

Your first big pointer is to take a little bit of time to learn how the ph scale works. Then after that is done, pick up a soil ph test kit, and learn how to use it. Adding fertilizer to your soil always brings with it some acidity, so you need to pick up a big bag of lawn lime or what is also called dolomite, and learn how to use it to bring up the ph level of your soil.

Your second gardening pointer is to learn about and give careful consideration to installing a drip irrigation system in your garden. Now the first big benefit of these systems is that they don’t flood the soil. Rather the water soaks in gradually. This is turn prevents the oxygen from being forced out, and also leads to more even nutrient distribution.

Your third tip is to give your plants a good “head start” by planting them in cups of soil in a green house, or even indoors under a grow-light. Now the nice thing about starting them indoors is that you can set your light timer to duplicate the midsummer growing season, even though it’s early spring outdoors. It also helps to bake your potting soil fist to kill of pest eggs.

Your fourth tip is to not go crazy selecting “exotics” when you’re buying your vegetable seeds. It’s just so easy to do these days to because so many are available online. Now they look delicious on the seed package but many of them can be problematic to grow, and they also may not suit your growing climate. Stick to the proven easy classics at first.

Your fifth tip is if you’re limited for space and hoping to see as much as you possibly can get come out of a small plot of land then use a nice high quality mulching product. Now peat-moss works great because it’s cellular in its makeup, but it can be a bit costly. Just the same though, if you can afford it, your soil will be nice and fluffy for many seasons.

The sun provides us with life sustaining heat and light, but it becomes a bit much at times. Sometimes it's relaxing to sit outside with a great book and beverage, but the sun's rays or a stray shower can end your good time rather quickly. The sun is quite welcome on a cooler day, however, and a retractable awning lets you choose how much or how little sunlight you want to receive. But what do you need to consider when buying a retractable awning?

Awnings are great for blocking the sun on a hot, summer day and for providing shelter during a rain shower. On some days though, it is nice to let the sun shine down unimpeded. A retractable awning allows you to choose whether you want more shade or more shine, and there are a couple of things to consider when buying one.

Before you settle on buying a particular retractable awning, figure out how you are going to use it. A restaurateur, for example, might wish to alleviate the glare as the sun rises and sets so his guests can have a pleasurable dining experience. This type of awning’s shade should be crafted from fabric that effectively blocks a good amount of sunlight. This applies to the home also, especially to a locale without much shading. Not only does a retractable awning provide shade from the hot sun, it keeps the utility bills lower. Less direct sunlight leads to an air conditioner that runs less often. In cooler weather, the awning can be retracted so that the sun’s warm rays help heat the home.

What is the retractable awning expected to cover? If the answer is a deck, patio, and the applicable furniture, the awning will be in the extended position more often. The fabric is going to be exposed to the elements quite a bit, so sturdy, possibly waterproof material is preferable. If you can’t find a good waterproof material, treat it with a waterproofing agent. The frame of the awning needs to be strong because the wind and water will test its integrity. Airplane-grade aluminum is available, and this material is lightweight enough to lessen the strain on whatever it is attached to, yet strong enough to resist the weather.

Another consideration to make when buying a retractable awning is the location you are erecting it. An area such as a patio that will see a lot of pedestrian traffic needs to provide good overhead clearance. If the awning is too low when extended, people will run into it. That doesn’t make for a pleasurable visit to your home. Whatever structure to which you attach the awning needs to be able to bear its weight. If an awning tears away from the structure, both the building and the awning could experience damage.

Retractable awnings are an attractive and practical addition to a home or business. Determine its use and location and your awning will provide you the style and comfort you are looking for. Consider its practicality when buying a retractable awning and you will obtain a positive return on your investment.

Now Try : <a href="http://www.rduckworth.com/"target='_blank' rel="nofollow">Awnings
